Puddle

I puddle around in murky wetness
where dead worms float I peek
can barely see myself go inside
where pebbles lay on bottom
having ringed in reflection

Geisha

Modern Geisha woman
your powdered white face
pink cheeks red lips black hair
a girl really as in the old days

You don't play by the old rules
you are your own advocate
choose the rules of the game
powered by you no one else

Brown Orbs

Small brown orbs in his fat face
he blinked at me behind thick glasses
skin the color of alabaster
full lips turned down

He blinked at me behind thick glasses
I felt contempt in his bearing
full lips turned down
if he should smile his face might crack

I felt contempt in his bearing
I stuttered as I tried to speak
if he should smile his face might crack
I wanted to turn and flee

I stuttered as I tried to speak
"Here to learn poetry, Sir"
I wanted to turn and flee
"The class is filled you're too late"

Cracks appeared in white paste
skin the color of alabaster
leering warty lids closed over
small brown orbs in his fat face

Unraveling

Sometimes I feel the fabric of my psyche
the convoluted noodles of my brain
dropping stitches as I knit along my day
until I have lost the pattern of my sanity
and I have to RIP out rows and rows
to get back to where I can find sense
in my routine of purls and clicks

I Walk the Path

I walk the path in pure delight
immersed in beauty all around me
breeze the breath of the universe
I am at peace, enthralled, enchanted

Immersed in beauty all around me
a quilt of colors, textures, patterns
I am at peace, enthralled, enchanted
all my senses finely tuned

A quilt of colors, textures, patterns
what artist created this
all my senses finely tuned
I drink the beauty in

What artist created this
one with imagination like no other
I drink the beauty in
resolve to never leave

"How will you live when the snow comes"
breeze the breath of the universe
in my mind I will not leave
I walk the path in pure delight

Through the Screen

Tears shatter
no one notices
through the screen
in a fine misting

Lunes 3-5-3

Out My Window Part 2

Drops cascade
shatter through the screen
explosion

gutters ring
rain splatters on bricks
percussion

lightening sears
tree trunks on fire
sirens sound

sky lightens
percussion winds down
just drop sounds

it's over

Lunes 5-3-5

Out My window

Gray sky and a breeze
now thunder
hopefully it rains

the grass is all brown
earth is parched
lakes are receding

little dog cowers
at my feet
afraid of thunder

Black sky and a wind
swirls leaves
rain prayers are answered

When Death Comes

She is trotting in my direction
sure footed hooves traverse earth
strong haunches propel her forward
her mission to connect with fate
her time, my time, the hour of
our intersection

Reading Email

Gray whales drift across
cantaloupe sky no sound
but kid's voices playing in
after school twilight games
not yet called home to dinner

in split time melon sky wanes
whales swallowed in squid ink
no longer visible but I know
they're feasting on star krill
until they joy full breech
