Almost Home

They Were Almost Home

They were almost home
when the car went out of control
they swerved back and forth
across the highway
steep walls on one side
deep plunge on the other side
pavement slick the steering wheel
spinning the car plummeting
over the edge like a rocket
straight down
her hair flew up past her ears
while she heard him say
God Damn You!

  1. Frightening poem, Willlow. I can picture this scene. Gives me a lump in my throat thinking of the story behind this poem.

  2. This is a scary poem Willow, something I';ve imagined happening to me and Bob at the end of road trips. I t brought up a new thought too, that whatever the circumstances of my death I hope my last words aren't "God damn it." or something comparable.

  5. Yes this almost home tale is a scary one--and all too possible for any of us. When I read this I read it as the man saying to God "Damn You." It does seem a dirty trick of fate some of these things.

  6. Intriguing, Willow, but mostly scary! Wow, when I read it it is as though I become part of the scene. Wonderful work.
